WORCESTER Warriors’ hopes of landing Duncan Weir this season have been dashed with Edinburgh deciding to keep hold of the fly-half until the summer.

The Sixways side have been in hot pursuit of the Scotland international for several weeks and came within a whisker of signing him on a short-term loan in February.

But the 26-year-old was recalled by Edinburgh due to injuries and international call-ups and has now been registered to play in the knock-out stages of the European Challenge Cup for the Pro14 outfit.

“Duncan won’t be coming here,” Solomons said.

“It is one of those things.

“Edinburgh are in two competitions and they feel that they need him.

“That’s their prerogative. He is their player as he is contracted to them.”

Weir who has won 27 caps for Scotland will leave Edinburgh at the end of the campaign.

Warriors have snapped up Australian stand-off Jono Lance on a two-year deal ahead of the 2018-19 season.

But when asked whether he was able to rule out looking to add Weir to his squad for next term, Solomons said: “When it comes to recruitment we will go through the normal channels.

“If we have got anything to announce we will do it properly.

“We will deal with recruitment like we always do, so that’s the answer I am giving you.”

Fly-half Jamie Shillcock, 20, is set to retain the number 10 jersey for Warriors’ trip to Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership on Saturday (3pm).
