UNCAPPED wing Josh Adams will hope his “outstanding” Worcester Warriors form will be enough to win over Wales’ selectors as he nervously awaits a call.

National head coach Warren Gatland will announce his 36-man squad at 11am tomorrow for next month’s Six Nations.

And Adams is expected to be involved as Gatland looks to find an answer to his problems out wide with Hallam Amos (ankle) and George North (knee) nursing injuries.

Adams’ hopes would have been increased further after assistant coach Rob Howley (pictured below by Craig Thomas/JMP) turned up at Sixways for the second successive weekend to watch him in action last Saturday.

The 22-year-old assisted for two Perry Humphreys tries before chalking up his 11th score of the season in Worcester’s 24-24 draw with Connacht in the European Challenge Cup.

The try rounded off a memorable week for Swansea-born Adams who won Aviva Premiership’s player of the month for December last Wednesday.

Warriors head coach Carl Hogg said he was hopeful over the ex-Wales under 20s ace’s chances of being named in Gatland’s squad.

“I think Josh has been outstanding since the start of the season,” Hogg said.

“I hope he gets called up.

“We want to give all our players a platform to do well enough to play international rugby as that’s the pinnacle for anyone’s career.”

Worcester News:

Adams sits at the top of the Premiership’s try-scoring charts after crossing the whitewash nine times in 13 league games.

He has played most of his rugby on the wing but he started at full-back against Connacht with returning duo Humphreys and Dean Hammond occupying the flanks.

“Some of the changes to the side were down to necessity,” said Hogg who selected Chris Pennell at outside centre.

“Obviously the Premiership is still the bread and butter for us so it is about managing the squad over the nine-month period and giving players chances to rest.

“But it also created an opportunity for Josh to be able to show his versatility.”

Warriors number eight Gerrit-Jan van Velze has also backed Adams to perform on the biggest stage and reckons the in-form Welshman does not get the recognition he deserves.

“I would love for Josh get a call-up,” van Velze said.

“It’s funny because if we were at the top of the table his name would be in every paper saying he should play for Wales.

“This guy deserves more (headlines). He is a quality rugby player.

“Aside from all the tries he scores he’s a clever footballer. He is physical, quick and very hungry – he has got all the attributes.”
