BROMSGROVE have booked their place in the North Midlands Cup Final following a fabulous 15-5 success over Birmingham and Solihull.

The Finstall Park side will now face Newport Shropshire on Sunday, May 13 at Dudley Kingswinford in what promises to be a hotly contest final.

Bromsgroved were mindful that opponents Bees were missing several first team regulars as they were looking to wrap up the National League Midland title two days later.

But Bromsgrove head coach Dan Protherough pointed out: "We were missing several regulars ourselves owing to the fact the game took place under Bees floodlights on a Thursday night, which meant some players being unavailable.

"But we are currently in a rich vein of form and having put 71 points past Stourbridge Lions the previous Saturday, we continued in the same manner and overpowered Bees up front proving in charge of every scrum as a result.

"Playing conditions were horrendous, but both teams tried to play good rugby and we defended really well when we had to and made sure Bees didn't get any penalty shots within our own 22".

Tries came from No.8 Tom Hardwick and left wing Josh Holt while fly half Richard Mahoney rifled over a penalty and conversion before Bees responded with a late consolation try.

Protherough has promised they'll be no let up as Bromsgrove travel to relegation threatened Sutton Coldfield this Saturday in Midlands One West.

He insisted: "There can be no room for sentiment as our priority is to finish the season as high as we possibly can.

"Good clubs are not just about the First XV and there is tremendous competition for places at the moment and that is driving the players forward.

"The season is finishing too quickly from our perspective."
