BUOYANT Bromsgrove Sporting took a giant stride towards winning this season's Midland League title with a compelling 4-2 triumph over closest rivals Coleshill Town at Pack Meadow on Bank Holiday Monday.

It signaled a remarkable turnaround in fortunes as Coleshill had crushed the Rouslers 4-0 just 13 days earlier.

The result means Sporting have now opened up a seven point gap on second placed Coleshill with seven games remaining and delighted manager Brendan Kelly said: "The response has been massive. The first game with Coleshill came around too quickly for me after I'd taken over from previous manager Paul Smith and we had new players who hadn't yet bedded into the squad.

"Since then we've won four games on the bounce and the title really is within our own hands now. The players have set themselves a really high standard and its up to us to keep it there".

The Easter weekend had commenced on a winning note with a 3-0 success over Shepshed Dynamo in front of a bumper 890 strong Victoria Ground crowd.

Richard Gregory continued his remarkable run of form in front of goal by firing the Rouslers into a 1-0 lead at half time.

Second half strikes from R'mar Murray and Liam Armstrong made certain of the points but the kindly Kelly confirmed: "I felt sorry for Shepshed. I think it was something like their third game in six days.

"We should have been out of sight before half time, but after the break, Shepshed came out and had a real good go at us and only a great save from goalkeeper Reece Hewitt preventing them from getting back on level terms".

But the Rouslers were nothing short of rampant at Coleshill as they built a 4-0 lead with with Gregory and striker partner Jason Cowley both converting twice.

Coleshill responded with two late strikes, one of which came from former Ro9usler Liam Molesworth, but they were far too late to effect the result.

Kelly praised his strike force and claimed: " They are on fire at the moment and compliment each other really well!

Gregory has now grabbed 22 goals in 18 games, the same total Cowley has chalked up in 38 appearences.

Both of them are now tracking Boldmere's Ryan Nesbitt who currently leads the Midland League goalscoring charts with 29 goals.

But the most eyecatching aspect of Monday's success at Coleshill was the amount of travelling support from Bromsgrove.

In a crowd of 940, it's believed Bromsgrove supplied somewhere between 700 to 800 of that total.

Kelly described his side's following as 'incredible' and insisted: "They are amazing! The support just gets better and better! It feels as though the whole Bromsgrove community is behind us at the moment and if we keep winning, we just hope that they all keep coming back again. It really is phenomenal!

The Rouslers travel to Long Eaton United this Saturday before entertaining groundshare tenants Worcester City on Tuesday night.

Kelly is able to welcome back Luke Dugmore from suspension but both Sean Brain and Max Loveridge remain sidelined through injury.
