DROITWICH put on a spirited display but could not clinch their first Worcestershire Cricket League Division One win of the season.

Spa are 29 points adrift of safety after they fell 27 runs short of Hagley’s 260-6 at St Peter’s Fields.

After being asked to bat Hagley raced to 50 from six overs before Phil Thomas and Martyn Davies pegged them back.

But the visitors' Alex Millard plundered 87 before being dismissed by Carl Thomson.

A steady spell from Paul Bryan restricted Hagley.

Spa reached 72-1 off 12 overs with swashbuckling shots from Ash Fearnall (34) and Jordan Renau (22).

Their dismissals brought Bryan (50) and Greg Mazgajczyk (61) together for a fourth-wicket stand of 120.

But both fell in quick succession with the innings closing on 233-7.

Spa seconds remain in the Division Two promotion places after chasing down 273 to beat Bromsgrove fourths by seven wickets with two overs left.

A fourth-wicket partnership of 120 between Ash Walton (89 not out) and Paul Spregg (62no) followed 68 by James King.

Joe Smith's 6-54 restricted the hosts.

In Division Five the thirds lost by six wickets to Romsley and the fourths fell by 145 runs to Romsley despite Andy Fletcher’s 80.

Droitwich firsts visit Cookley on Saturday with the seconds at home.
