THERE was plenty of interest when Bromsgrove Tennis Club commenced their Hereford and Worcester summer season with a Division 4E match which saw their C and D teams clash.

The D team were promoted from last season and will focus on developing juniors coupled by including more experienced players for support.

Not surprisingly the first round of matches went as expected with the C team opening up a 3-0 lead despite the efforts of Dan Andrews and Trevor Errington who pushed the C team first pairing of John Casey and Tim Wright to a third set tie break.

But the second round of matches proved a different story as the D pairing began to gell and fought back to level the match at 3-3, George Rogers and Stuart Shannon pulling out all the stops against Casey and Wright in what proved a thrilling match that resulted in a third set tie break victory.

Charlie Tait and Dave Brace fought hard to beat Max Feltham and Aaron Oakes, again on a third set tie break.

Andrews and Errington then beat Ian Pidgen and Alistair Liddle in two sets following an injury to Liddle.

On countback, the C team took the two extra bonus win points by virtue of winning 8 sets to 7.

Bromsgrove Ladies C side had a day to forget in their first Division 4E game after winning promotion last term.

The team of Beccy Smith and Lorraine Russell, Marie Hackett with Connie Wedelich plus Anne Simper and Isabelle O'Connor were crushed 6-0 by a strong Worcester B side.
