DROITWICH men’s Aegon B team kicked off their tennis season in Division Three with a 5-1 home defeat to a strong Hallow A side.

Nick King, John Moran and Dave Lamb lost their singles matches in two sets while Eric Cartelet fell in a championship tie-break.

Moran and Lamb won 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles but Cartelet and King went down 5-7, 6-1, 1-0.

The C team lost 6-0 at Hereford.

Robin Jones, Ben Steel and Ian Ross fell in straight sets with Sam Reavey forcing a championship tie-break only to lose 10-5.

Jones and Steel went down 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles and Ross and Reavey 6-1, 6-1.

The women's D team beat the E side 5-1 in Division Seven East.

Caroline Hawley and Angela Creese of the D team won 6-4, 7-5 against Shona Atherton and Helen Whiteside and 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 against Sue Brice and Joy Baker.

Jackie Holliday and Julie Rhodes beat Janine Billinge and Karen Latham before a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Atherton and Whiteside.

Bryce and Baker won for the E team 6-2, 6-3 against Hazel Briggs and Eileen Probyn-Skinner who then defeated Latham and Billinge 6-4, 6-4.
