BOTTOM of the table Bromsgrove produced a battling performance to hold play-off chasing Bournemouth to a 17-17 draw at Finstall Park in National League 3 South West.

Centre Tom Millen snapped up a first half try which full back Jon Critichlow converted and then added a penalty to put Bromsgrove 10-7 ahead by half time.

Critchlow also kicked the extras to a second half try from No.8 Tom Hardwick as Bromsgrove pressed for the win but Bournemouth held out.

Head coach Dan Protherough said: "It was a game we could have won. Twice we were held up on their line in the first half when really we should have scored.

"The second half was a tight affair when both sides were guilty of losing the ball when in contact.

"But the result maintains our record of taking bonus points off all the top sides this season.

"Bournemouth are still in with a chance of making the play-offs and they came to Bromsgrove chasing a bonus point win.

"We played really well and didn't give them any time or space on the ball.

"By the end of the game, my players were absolutely drained because they had given everything.

"But we need to do the same again when we visit Bracknell this Saturday.

"We played some of our best rugby of the season when we played Bracknell at home even though we lost the game.
