PAUL Smith has promised to pick his Bromsgrove Sporting players up off the floor this week following the dismay of their FA Vase semi final exit to Cleethorpes.

Gary King's shock 50 second strike was enough to wreck Sporting's dreams of playing at Wembley next month but Smith insists there is no time to dwell on the issue.

Smith said: "It's a crying shame but we have to get it out of our system straightaway and I'm thankful we had a game against Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday to get back up and running.

"We had a good chat on the team coach coming back from Cleethorpes and we all went for a few drinks when we got back into Bromsgrove.

"But we have to put the FA Vase to bed now, fantastic though it was.

"I told the players they'd all overachieved on what has been an unbelievable run that has caught the imagination of the town.

"But there's a league title to be won now and we've still got 12 games to play, all of them being cup finals in their own right.

"At the start of the season, our objective was to win the league and that still remains the case. The league title is within our grasp, we're in a great position at the top of the table and we have to make that count."

Smith hasn't ruled out doing a bit of business ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline and already has a couple of irons in the fire.

Top of the list is a back-up goalkeeper and possibly another striker to boost his 19 strong squad.

Smith added: "I've got 19 players at the moment and I will be looking to utilise the entire squad over the coming weeks as I have faith in every single one of them."

Smith is under no illusions and realises Sporting cannot afford to start slipping up especially with promotion rivals Leicester Road and Hinckley AFC snapping at their heels.

Following the trip to Racing Club Warwick, Sporting have a string of three successive home games starting with Coventry Copsewood this Saturday and then Heather St Johns the following Tuesday.

Smith hopes some of the massive support Sporting picked up along the way of their FA Vase adventure will stick with the club.

He said: "We reached crowds of 3,500 during the FA Vase run and if we could just keep 10 per cent of that, it would be brilliant.

"We've had absolutely wonderful support throughout and it was great to see so many new faces at the club.

"It was unbelievable at times and it makes a huge difference when they get behind the players. We still need them now."
