BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith hit out at the match officials after Uttoxeter Town became only the second side this season to take points off his side following their 2-2 draw in Midland League Division One.

Smith insisted: "I don't like having a go at the officials because I know just what a difficult job they have, but the referee made two crucial decisions that went against us.

"The initial foul by Luke Edwards which led to their penalty took place two yards outside the penalty area, even though their player dived into the area.

"I also believe Chris Conway had a perfectly good goal ruled out. He rose higher than anyone else and delivered a powerful header. There was no suggestion of a foul and there were no complaints from Uttoxeter, yet the referee ruled it out.

"In my mind, they were two big calls and I'm in no doubt the referee got them wrong. We should have taken all three of the points."

Sporting will look to progress in the FA Vase this Saturday when they play hosts to fellow Midland League Division One side Cadbury Athletic.

Smith will be demanding his players put the record straight as Cadbury are the only other side apart from Uttoxeter to dent Sporting's league record this season.

Smith said: "Without doubt we produced our worst performance of the season when we played Cadbury at Triplex. I feel I won't need to say too much to my players ahead of the game."

Chris Conway is unavailable for the Vase match, but otherwise Smith has a full squad to select from, which will include Aaron Roberts after he had a clear the air meeting with his manager this week.

Smith confirmed: "Aaron was left out of the squad against Uttoxeter for disciplinary reasons.

"I'd left him out for the recent game with Nuneaton Griff and Aaron reacted in the wrong way. He was clearly unhappy with the decision and let himself down.

"We've had a chat and Aaron has apologised to everyone for his behaviour. As a result, we've drawn a line under things and we move on.

"Aaron will be in contention to play against Cadbury."

Sporting travel to West Midland League Premier side Bewdley Town next Wednesday night for a Worcester Senior Urn contest.
