FAIRFIELD Villa bagged a 1-0 win at Bloxwich Town in Midland League Division Two and climbed up to seventh spot as a result.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "The pitch was a real leveller and much of the game took place in midfield."

In a game of few chances, former Halesowen Town marksman Connor Collins went close for Villa in the first half before his side began to take charge after the break.

It was Collins who eventually broke the deadlock with a tremendous 25 yard drive which went in off the post.

Plucky Villa could have added further goals as both Dan Wilkes and Jack Connelly broke clean through but were denied by Bloxwich's goalkeeper who pulled off a couple of outstanding saves.

Villa shotstopper Chris Mole was a virtual spectator for most of the game but had to produce one late save to make sure Villa sealed the points.

Villa have a local derby on their hands this Saturday when they entertain Barnt Green Spartak who are now based at Highgate United's ground.

Goalkeeper Colin Matthews has now joined Northfield Town after losing his place to Chris Mole and Oakes added: "We want to thank Colin for all he has done for us and wish him the best for the future."
