FAIRFIELD Villa failed to progress in the Worcester Junior Cup after crashing out with a dismal 5-0 defeat to Droitwich Spa.

Villa found themselves 2-0 down within the opening 20 minutes and the situation could have been much worse but for goalkeeper Chris Mole who pulled off a couple of cracking saves.

To make matters worse, Villa went 3-0 down just before half time after conceding a penalty which effectively put Droitwich out of sight.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes admitted: "There was no way back from that point. Droitwich were quicker out of the blocks and we failed to defend properly from set pieces. It was a very disappointing afternoon. We hardly troubled their goalkeeper, who had a very relaxed game to say the least."

Villa will look to bounce back this Saturday when they host Coventry side Alvis Sporting Club in the Les James Cup.

Alvis remain the only unbeaten side in Midland League Division Two this term and are currently joint top.

Oakes added: "It's an opportunity for us to progress but we need to show real character. We came back well from our last defeat to win at Earlswood Town and we need to do the same again."
