FAIRFIELD Villa will honour the memory of much-loved former chairman Paddy Eades when they play Cadbury Athletic on Saturday (3pm ko).

The club hopes the match at the Recreation Ground will become an annual feature in pre-season.

Eades was a one-club man who joined Fairfield when they reformed in 1959.

He held almost every single role at the club including the position of chairman since 1985.

As manager, he led Villa to two Kidderminster and District League titles.

He was also instrumental in developing the facilities at the ground, including new changing rooms and most recently a huge upgrade of the entire ground.

Vice chairman Paul Oakes, who was joint manager under Eades’ tenure for a decade, said: “Paddy was one of the nicest guys you could meet and he dedicated his life to the club.

“We wanted to set up something special so we could honour his memory and it’s great we’ve got Cadbury Athletic on board.

“Like us, they are well-run club, despite not having any money.”

Villa continued their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 win over Enville on Saturday, with a fully-fit Lewis Smith bagging a first-half half-trick.

Oakes added: “Wayne Davis and Lee Williams have made a very good start taking over the team and they have the team playing some lovely football.

“I was so pleased for Lewis, he’s spent several seasons injured but said he always wanted to come back stronger and has shown a lot of desire and passion.”
