AVONCROFT overcame Netherton by two wickets to boost their chances of getting back into Worcester County League Division Three title race.

Seam bowler John Hunter made a sensational start with the ball, taking the first four wickets as Netherton slumped to eight for four.

Netherton skipper Russ Oseland stood firm and carried his bat for a patient 58 not out.

He found some last gap resistance from No.11 batsman Dominic Priest who supplied 32 not out as they took Netherton's total from 137 for nine to 184 for nine from a full 50 overs.

Hunter finished with fabulous figures of five for 23 while accurate David James only conceded 19 runs from his 10 over spell.

James then showed his prowess with the bat by making 46 in reply while Alex Brunt added a quickfire 61.

Despite a collapse, wicketkeeper Sam Hughes saw Avoncroft over the line with an unbeaten 32 not out, finishing the game off in style with a six as his side reached 187 for eight off 44 overs.

Avoncroft will want more of the same when they take on Barnards Green this Saturday.
