DROITWICH Spa suffered last gasp dismay when they lost out to fellow Worcester County League Division One strugglers Belbroughton with just one ball remaining.

Spa were left to rue not using up all their available overs as Belbroughton's last pair hit 20 off the final two overs to scrape home by one wicket.

It was credit to Belbroughton tailender Harrison Masters who smashed 24 from an unbeaten last wicket partnership following half centuries from team mates James Wilson and Geoff Day.

The result was rough on Droitwich all-rounder Phil Thomas who produced an exhilarating knock of 58 when batting at No.8 and then returned bowling figures of three for 15 from his 10 mover spell.

After Max Young with 32 and Cannor Grant on28 had provided a platform for Spa, Thomas then combined with Craig Hunt in a vital eighth wicket stand that enabled Spa to post a total of 205.

Droitwich began their reply in determined manner and picked up three wickets in succession thanks to the disciplined line and length of Thomas.

Australian Wilson and Day then wrestled the initiative back for Belbroughton before they lost five wickets for just 22 runs to put Droitwich in the box seat before last man Masters stole the points .

The only Droitwich Spa side to secure a win was the Thirds who chased down 276 to beat Barnt Green with 10 balls to spare.

Simon Froggatt scored an unbeaten century for Barnt Green before Scott Fenn with 48 and James King on 80 put on 113 for the first wicket when Spa replied.

Ashley Walton then showed a welcome return to form by striking a matchwinning 84 not out to see his side home.

Pete Gurr hit 67 while Martin Woodward claimed three wickets but Spa Seconds till lost by three wickets to Bromyard.

The Fourths went down by seven wickets to Barnt Green where Luke Cooper was the only Spa player to reach double figures with 35.

Spa play Cookey this Saturday while the Thirds and Fourths take on West Malvern.
