THE men’s and women’s teams from Bromsgrove have been in good form in the Summer League.

Sunday saw the Men’s B team continue their unbeaten start to the season in Division Three with a great 6-0 win over Leominster A to secure maximum points.

The opening round saw Steve Jones and Ollie Simper come through a marathon two-hour battle to claim victory in three sets. It was more straightforward for the pairs of Ash Rutter with Phil Boardman and Matt Smith with Jeth Tomlinson as they cruised to straight forward wins.

The second round saw all three Bromsgrove pairs sweep to victory for a great win that lifts them to the top of the table.

Earlier in the week, a 4-2 victory for the Men’s C team over Boughton Park B was enough to move them into second place in Division Five. Boughton fielded a very strong first pair who won both their rubbers, but their second and third pairs were no match for Bromsgrove and were well beaten.

Also moving into second place, this time in Division Six were the Men’s D team who thumped Stourbridge E 5-1, again with great performances from the younger players in the team.

Not to be outdone, the Men’s E team beat David Lloyd Dudley 4-2 to take third spot in Division Eight.

The Ladies A team consolidated their second place in Division One with a good 5-1 away victory over Ross on Wye A.

Captain Sally Franks had to call up three B team players to complete the squad and they showed great fighting spirit in some new pairings to come away with the win.

A 5-1 victory over Wall Heath B saw the Ladies C team take second place in Division Five, only four points behind the leaders with a match in hand.

After their promotion last year they’re pushing hard for another this year.

Finally, the Ladies E team took on local rivals Droitwich D and got a great 4-2 win in Division Seven.

First pair Yvonne Priestman with Avril Pugh led the way with two victories as Cynthia Colley with Claire Andrews and Di Horton with Fay Giles all battled hard to get a win each to secure victory for Bromsgrove.

Meanwhile, the men’s B team had winning draw against Bewdley B away on Wednesday night. They are unbeaten still in the league.
