NORTH East Worcestershire Ravens produced another spirited display but suffered an 84-12 loss to Telford Raiders in the Midlands Premier on Saturday.

An inexperienced squad got their first taste of playing on a 3G but suffered a setback when the 15-strong squad picked up two injuries.

Telford started as they planned to continue with the first try of the game, going in quick and fast but Ravens were fast to respond with a try from Mark Austin which was converted by Dave Wimbury.

It looked like this was going to be a neck to neck battle but Ravens lost their quick paced winger to injury, allowing the hosts an area to exploit and they streaked into a commanding lead by half-time.

After the break, Ravens hit back with the first try of the second half, when Rich Whitehouse scored under the posts Wimbury easily converted.

This was set to be a shortlived battle back as Ravens quickly lost another player because of injury, forcing the away team to be reshuffled.

The more experienced Telford side exposed Ravens’ weaknesses and ran in even more tries, although Ravens battled on.

They play Northampton Demons at home this Saturday.

Meanwhile, the under-13s headed to Coventry Bears on Sunday for their second Merit League fixture of the season.

There were a large number of tries as the club’s young guns took on a larger squad and a physically bigger team.

The juniors will be in action in the South Midlands Development Day a Telford on Sunday. Boys and girls in school years three to 10 are welcome to attend. For more details can go to midlandsjuniorsrugbyleague.co.uk/events. Registration is 10.30am for 11am start.
