BROMSGROVE Tennis Club delivered some ace performances this week with the Ladies C team leading the way.

They travelled to Stourbridge where strong displays from first pair Steph Armstrong and Beccy Smith plus second string of Connie Wedelich and Lisa Rushton saw them both win without dropping a set.

It was a great deal tougher for the third pair of Anne Simper and Lorraine Russell, who finally won against Stourbridge’s second pair after a close third-set battle which they finally triumphed on a tie break in the final set.

A much more straightforward win over their opposite pair ensured that Bromsgrove now rise to second spot in Division Five.

The Ladies A team were not to be outdone as they entertained Stourbridge B, who they sent home without winning a single set.

Bromsgrove’s pairings of Rachael Mak and Imogen Sinclair at number one, Tina Manning and Sally Franks at number two and Jilly Witcomb with Meg Jones at three outclassed the opposition, the result taking them to second in Division One.

Ladies captain Sally Franks said: “For both teams to get maximum points and only drop one set against a strong club like Stourbridge is fantastic.

“It looks like the C team are in the running for back-to-back promotions if they keep going like this.

“The ladies’ squad is one of the strongest we’ve had for a number of years and the amount of teams getting promoted in the summer and winter competitions reflect this.”

The Mens D team ran out 6-0 winners over Ombersley A when only dropping one set.

This victory pushes them into second place in Division Six.

It was straightforward for first and third pairings, but youngsters George Rogers and Aaron Oakes had to produce a gutsy display to win both of their rubbers.

Captain Mel McGregor praised the youngsters afterwards and said: “George and Aaron really showed how well they are developing with two great wins from two tough matches.

“They’re both moving up the teams and putting in great performances at whatever level they are asked to play at.”
