BROMSGROVE Sporting have boosted their forward line by bringing in Lichfield City powerhouse Tony Clarke.

Clarke agreed to join the club as manager Paul Smith looks to rebuild his strike force ahead of another push for promotion in the Midlands Division One in the 2016-17 season.

Clarke has scored 58 goals in two seasons, bagging 20 for Cadbury Athletic and crucially 38 for Lichfield City last season.

With Kyle Turner moving on and Connor Collins only invited back for pre-season, Smith is keen to pep up his attack and is still searching for another striker.

Joining Clarke at the Victoria Ground is Chelmsley Town winger Chris Lloyd, who scored over 51 times for the Division Two outfit during 41 games.

The speedy wideman is seen as a direct replacement for Reece Hewitt, who has informed Smith that he has agreed to sign a deal at Southern League Premier runners-up Redditch United.

Smith said: “I am delighted that Tony and Chris have agreed to sign for us this summer.

“Tony is a big strong forward who has been prolific over the last two seasons. He’s got pedigree.

“Chris is someone I had as a youngster at Alvechurch four or five years ago and he’s really improved and was the best player in Division Two. He’s an exciting addition.”

Sporting are also set to sign Lichfield full back Joe Haines and are looking for a new midfielder after Liam Spink decided to try and impress Redditch boss Darren Byfield.

Spink has been invited to train with the Reds in the summer, prompting Smith to search for someone else who can play in the middle.

“He’s a top player who I would have back but Liam understands I also need to find players now,” explained the Sporting boss.

Meanwhile, it appears that Smith’s hopes of signing Alvechurch trio Mark Smith, Karl Edwards and Sam Williams have been dashed.
