BROMSGROVE batted their way into a strong position against Himley last Saturday before play was abandoned through rain.

Jayden Levitt struck a quickfire 33 off 27 balls before Bromsgrove slumped to 44 for three.

Thankfully Bromsgrove opening bat Ashley Newfield had adopted an anchor role that soon paid off.

Wicketkeeper Ben Tegg arrived at the wicket to score 26 and helped take the total to 103 for four.

Bromsgrove's position continued to improve when Tom Hill joined Newfield at the crease and the pair put on 115 for the fifth wicket before Newfield was finally out for an excellent 103.

Hill remained unbeaten making 60 not out off 84 balls as Bromsgrove eventually posted a testing target of 237 for six from 49 overs.

Unluckily for Bromsgrove, Himley never came out to bat as rain arrived during the tea interval to prevent any further play.

Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson revealed: "The last four or five times we've gone to Himley, it's rained everytime.

"When we arrived it was raining and play didn't start until 12-30pm. I was quite surprised we even managed to complete our innings as we had to come off a couple of times through rain.

"It's a shame we couldn't continue as I was quite confident of defending that total, especially as Himley didn't have Tom Kohler-Cadmore available to them following his heroics for Worcestershire the previous evening.

"At the moment we've played four games, three of them away from home, but we haven't been able to get any momentum going.

"We set our stall out at the start of the season to challenge for promotion to the Birmingham League Premier Division and that still remains the target.

"I've got a good young side here at the moment, but there's plenty of experience to fall back on.

"Both Nick Husbands and Tom Green were unavailable this week, while Matt Dalloway has been training with us and has said he'll turn out for a few games.

"We've also got former Devon Minor Counties player Duncan Roke to call upon now that his rugby commitments are completed.

Bromsgrove look to boost their promotion prospects on Saturday when they entertain Dorridge, who were relegated from the Premier Division last season at St Godwolds Park, play starts at noon.
