CAPTAIN Andy Sutton has called on Barnt Green to grind out results after slipping to a six-wicket loss to Berkswell in the Birmingham League Premier.

Green lost the toss and were put into bat at the Warwickshire club's The Lant ground.

However, they suffered an early setback when Sam Cheshire was bowled by David Brignull (4-19), who removed William Baker (17) and Luke Radford (20) in an impressive spell of opening bowling.

Green had been reduced to 51-3 before Matt Lamb put together a patient 78 off 96 balls.

He was the constant as the wickets tumbled around him, with Tom Brown scoring 26 runs.

Green made 201-9 in 50 overs as needed a good start to slow down Berkswell's reply.

Sutton dismissed Tom Lewis for nine runs but the home side rallied impressively as a second wicket stand of 112 by Mark Best (83) and Chris Whittock (48) got them back on track.

Best's 83 from 95 balls steered Berkswell close to victory when he was caught by Jayme Crouch off Ben Dunn's bowling, before Oliver Hayley (36no) guided them to 203-4 in 33 overs.

Sutton said: "We were confident going into this game after two wins last weekend.

"We thought the wicket might have some movement early on and then settle down and we just had to get through that period.

"But we were too impatient and were punished for it.

"Matt Lamb continued to play very well but only three or four players are in good form and we need more than that.

"It's no good saying we are a young side because we've been together for two or three season now and there are lots of young teams in the league.

"We have to learn how to grind out results, we're not always going to have perfect playing conditions."

Barnt Green take on West Bromwich Dartmouth at home on Saturday (noon start).
