DROITWICH under-17s were crowned North Midlands champions for the seventh year in a row with a 55-5 win over Lichfield.

The Spa side advanced to the final by the narrowest of margins, a hard-fought 8-7 home win against Moseley.

Droitwich were under the cosh for the first ten minutes, but slotted a penalty to open up a narrow 3-0 lead. This was quickly cancelled-out by a fine Lichfield try and the boys trailed 5-3 midway through the first half.

But Spa turned the screw with a stunning four-try salvo as they streaked into an impressive 29-5 lead by half-time. The second half was a masterclass in running rugby, and a relentless Droitwich effort finished up at 55-5 in the boys favour.

Coach Adam Drew said: “Our record remains intact and that gives me an immense sense of pride for the boys and Droitwich RFC."
