BOSS Paul Smith believes Nuneaton Griff will provide a severe test to Bromsgrove Sporting’s title credentials.

The fifth-placed Warwickshire outfit come to the Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm kick-off) looking to boost their own campaign in the Midlands Division One.

Sporting remain second in the table trying to keep the pressure on leaders Coventry United, despite last weekend’s home clash against Lichfield being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

But Smith wants a more focused display after an erratic performance in last week’s 6-5 Worcestershire Senior Urn win over Littleton.

“This will be one of our toughest remaining games this season,” said the Rouslers boss.

“I have watched Nuneaton several times and they are a very good side.

“We need to produce the performances that saw off Leicester Road and Hinckley and not the one against Littleton.”

Torrential rain forced off Saturday’s top-four clash, leaving Smith frustrated by the number of postponements so far this term.

“I have never known a game to be called off since the club started in 2010," said Smith.

“It rained all Friday but the pitch passed an inspection first thing on Saturday, but it continued to rain so the game was called off at 11am.

“We’ve won 10 games in a row and when you’re on a good run, you don’t want games to be called off.”

Smith was critical of his players after last Wednesday’s Urn semi-final thriller.

In a game where the lead changed several times, Sporting battled from 4-3 down with Connor Collins scoring late on.

They will now take on Highgate or Smith’s former club Alvechurch in the final.

Smith said: “I was not pleased with the players’ attitude before or during the Littleton game.

“Too many players felt they could turn up and win because we had beaten Littleton twice before.

“It wasn’t good enough and we can’t afford to be like that. It depends on attitude.”

“I played over 200 times for Alvechurch and have lots of friends there but I also know a lot of people at Highgate, so whoever we face will be great.”
