BROMSGROVE teams experienced a disappointing start to 2016.

The Men’s A Team were home to Worcester A, but with the visitors fielding probably the strongest pair in the County of Jon Bradshaw and Nick Aylett, it was always going to be tough as Worcester won 3-1.

In a tight match, the result was determined by a couple of close tie breaks which just went in Worcester’s favour.

Adam Dudek with Steve Halfpenny beat the Worcester second pair, but Ollie Simper with Luke Pettit just went down against them in a final set tie break to give Worcester the victory as Bradshaw and Aylett cruised to two wins.

The Ladies C Team played a strong Beckford A side in Division Four and again went down 3-1, with Debbie Oliver and Joan McGregor picking up the single rubber for Bromsgrove.

It was better news for the Ladies E Team at Wall Heath, where captain Sheila Richardson had to make a last minute return following a long lay off with injury as player illness left the team short.

The new pairings of Ros Cooke with Sue Forrest and Richardson with Lesley Hodson each won one and lost one.

However, with rubbers and sets equal, the countback on games won gave Bromsgrove the victory by four games to maintain their Division Eight promotion push.

The Mixed C team were at Leaders David Lloyd Dudley and lost 3-1.

The opening matches saw the Bromsgrove pairs of Voitek Niedzviedz with Ana Hildago Lopez and Tim Roland with Beccy Smith struggle with the fast carpet courts.

The second round of encounters saw Bromsgrove adapt and win one rubber and come close in the other.

The Men’s E team got the better of Worcester G in Division Nine.

The experienced pair of Chris Hands with Bruce Turner were well-supported by the junior pairing of Aaron Oakes with George Rogers, as they won all contests in straight sets and were never under any real pressure.

Hands said: “It’s great to see our juniors developing into sound match players as they begin to build experience.

“I’m sure they’ll be challenging for places in higher teams in the near future.”
