RUSTY Bromsgrove Ladies took a while to rediscover their goal-scoring touch before defeating Bournville 4-0.

The Ladies played their first game in a month and forced three early penalty corners but were unable to convert them.

Their incisive passing play was causing Bournville all kinds of problems with Lily Alsop and Katy Masters combining well down the right and Vic Longmore and Tricky Burton running the channels well.

But they failed to convert this into goals and Bournville gradually began to take a foothold in the game.

After a constructive half-time talk, Bromsgrove immediately took the lead as Heather Nunnerley coolly converted a penalty flick given for a foot on the goal line.

This opened the flood gates as Bromsgrove got back into rhythm.

Their second came when defender Kirsty Gormley won the ball in her own area. The ball went to Burton, who covered half the pitch before she released a fabulous pass into the path of Longmore who slotted the ball home.

A third goal soon followed when Nunnerley and Laura Underhill constructed a fine penalty corner move.

Underhill’s pass was turned home on the far post by Caroline Baker, her first goal for the club.

Bromsgrove continued to dominate and it was no surprise as they added a fourth. Underhill, switching into left midfield, sent a superb pass up field to Longmore, who beat three defenders then lifted the ball into the goal.

“This was another fine performance,” said coach Alan Gormley. “After such a long layoff it took the girls a while to find their rhythm but when they did they were magnificent.”

“The two open play goals were really brilliant and our overall play leaves us in a fine position to face second place Harborne this coming Saturday.”

The second team came up short against a very strong Stourport team.

They competed well throughout and Lisa Smiley, Harriet Finney and Vicky Powell all worked the Stourport goalie but to no avail.

Bromsgrove Ladies 3rd 3-0 Worcester 4th A hat-trick from Clare Rippin on her third team debut gave the thirds a 3-0 over Worcester fourths win and kept their unbeaten run going.

Bromsgrove’s fourths drew 1-1 against Droitwich, with Rachael Colclough on target.
