BROMSGROVE Sporting are gearing up for another important clash in the Midlands Division One when they go to Leicester Road on Saturday.

And manager Paul Smith is expecting a tough game on the road in Leicestershire (3pm ko).

Sporting’s opponents gave their season a huge lift after beating leaders Coventry United 3-0 at Sphinx Drive, United’s first defeat of the season.

That defeat sealed an excellent weekend for the Rouslers, who made it five wins in a row in the league with a 7-2 demolition of Heath Hayes at the Victoria.

“It’s going to be an extremely tough game because Leicester Road got a great result against Coventry.

“It wasn’t like a narrow win, to score three goals there is very impressive.

“Since we lost to AFC Hinckley, I asked the players for improvement and they have really delivered and we’re going well.”

Midfielder Liam Spink marked his Sporting debut at the weekend with an eyecatching goal.

Before the clash at Leicester, Sporting also had to face Smith’s former club Studley at home last night (3pm ko).

Bromsgrove have also announced the appointment of Danny Russ and Steve Taylor to the U21 management team.

Assistant Manager Jon Daniels is taking a sabbatical for personal reasons, so the club have taken the opportunity to add to the team.

Taylor previously played for Bromsgrove Rovers, Crystal Palace, Northampton Town, Rushden and Diamonds, Hednesford Town, Evesham United, Stafford Town and Heath Hayes, where he set up their youth system.

He also won the Football Conference with Kidderminster Harriers.

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove’s home clash against Pershore on Saturday, October 10 is one of four games to be chosen by the organisers of nonleague day.

The club are hoping for 500 fans to attend the clash, which kicks-off at 3pm.
