BARNT Green avenged an eight-wicket defeat to Worcestershire rivals Ombersley on Saturday as they recorded a four-wicket win in the Birmingham League Premier.

Green, who won the toss and after opting to field first, they took advantage of a difficult wicket for batsmen to reduce the hosts to 121 all out in 41 overs.

Alastair Pollock (2-23), Tom Banton (3-5) and Darrell Williams (3-31) proving to be chief destroyers shared the wickets.

Green made a strong reply, with Sam Cheshire (26), Tom Brown (27) and Matthew Lamb (25) getting among the runs, while Oliver Butts also added a vital 17 runs as they made 122-6 in 34 overs.

While safety from relegation was achieved last week, the win moved Green onto 216 points and opened up a gap over the bottom three sides.

Green now end the season at home to relegation-battling Wolverhampton on Saturday (noon start).

The Black Country outfit need a win to ensure survival, but captain Andy Sutton has warned his side are aiming to win the game.

He said: “Even though we’ve got nothing to play for we’ve still got our pride and we’re not going to make it easy for Wolverhampton.

“It’s been a hard season but when we’ve had everyone available we are a good side.

“We lost one or two players in the winter and it didn’t help with myself and Matthew Lamb got injured at the same time.

“But hopefully we can end the season with a win.”
