BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith hopes his side's FA Cup win over Gornal Athletic will ignite their Midlands League Premier campaign.

Goals for Sean Brain and Joe Adams record an impressive 2-1 success in the Black Country as the team recorded their first win of the season.

Sporting had drew with Southam and Pelsall Villa but were set to tackle Racing Club Warwick at home last night, before a trip to Stafford Town on Saturday (3pm ko).

Smith admitted that a slight tactical tweak had changed the team's fortunes.

Both John Pykett and Reece Hewitt had made eye-catching impact against Pelsall as they came off the bench to score levellers last Tuesday night.

He said: "I must put my hand up and say I made a mistake, I was trying a new system in the first two games and we were a little narrow.

"We still managed to create chances but I played two wingers in John Pykett and Reece Hewitt against Gornal and they gave us a lot more width and I thought we looked a lot better.

"Gornal are a good side but I think we surprised them and 2-1 flattered them to be honest.

"I am hoping this result is going to be the spring board for the rest of the season."

Sporting, who entertain Littleton next Tuesday (7.45pm ko), face either Walsall Wood or Hinckley in the Preliminary Round on Saturday, August 29 (3pm KO), with the replay set for last night.

Victory over Gornal also pocketed £1,500 in prize money for progressing from the extra preliminary round.
