BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith believes Black Country side Gornal Athletic will provide a stern test in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

The Rouslers go to the Garden Walk Stadium to face a side tipped to challenge to win the title in the West Midlands League Premier.

Sporting kicked off their league campaign in the Midlands Division One with a 1-1 draw at home to Southam - a game they could have won comfortably if they had taken their chances.

Smith said: "Gornal is going to be a very tough game, they are one of best teams in their league and will do well.

"But I am confident we will go there and do our best to win the game.

"It was frustrating to draw with Southam because I felt we created more than enough chances to win the game.

"Southam didn't really create anything but they managed to score from a well-taken set piece.

"What I was pleased about was that we restricted one of our promotion rivals to just one chance.

"I am sure that Sean Brain and Luke Corbett, who is a very experienced player, will take chances over the season."

Sporting have also brought in young goalkeeper Brendan Bunn to compete with Sean Edwards for the number one spot.

Last season, he played for Stourport Swifts and appeared in several pre-season games for Kidderminster Harriers and is also training full-time with the club.

Striker Jozsef Jakab has also re-signed for the club.

Smith added: "Brendan is a talented young keeper who will push Shaun and I am pleased to get him in."

Bromsgrove, who played Pelsall Villa in the league on Tuesday night, have been drawn to play Studley at home in the Premier Cup on September 15.
