ALVECHURCH manager Ian Long has snapped up Chasetown goal-getter Nicky Turton.

The Church boss has been looking for a replacement for Jordan Archer.

Turton bagged goals the Staffordshire outfit and Black Country Rangers.

Long had wanted to bring him to Tividale last season but they could not afford him.

“I am delighted to bring Nicky in from Chasetown,” said the Alvechurch boss.

“He’s dropped down a level but he’s bought into our idea of vying for promotion and I would expect us to by vying for the top spot.

“The management at Chasetown have brought in a few forwards and there was a lot of competition for places.

“He’s someone I have wanted to sign for a while but at Tividale he was unfortunately we could not afford him, so I am very happy to bring him to Alvechurch.”

Church stepped up their pre-season performances with two more wins over the last week.

On Tuesday, they got the better of Cradley 3-2, with goals for Dale Edwards, Richard Huckfield and Danny Priest, who hit the target with a well-struck free-kick.

On Saturday, Alvechurch were too strong for Oadby Town and ran out 3-0 winners. Josh March, Zac Foster and Dave Bellis put away long range efforts.

Long added: “The performances have been a lot better, the display against Oadby was much more of that I expect from them.

“I think signing Nicky has given the whole club a lift. We’re still looking for a goalkeeper to push Paul Evans but the squad is coming together.”

Alvechurch are set to face Wolverhampton Sporting away on Tuesday night and then tackle Stourbridge at home on Saturday (3pm ko).
