IT was a great weekend for the Bromsgrove's Men’s A team after they clinched the Hereford and Worcester Aegon Title and booked their place in the national rounds.

Drawn at home, Bromsgrove took on the Shropshore champions Wem Tennis Club.

The team of four was captained by Matt Kirkham, with Adam Dudek, Jaspal Saimbi and junior Ollie Stratford in support.

The opening round of singles, saw some tight contests, with in particular Saimbi coming through to victory after a long three-set battle, which gave Bromsgrove a 4-0 lead before the two doubles matches. Again it was Bromsgrove who triumphed in both to run out 6-0 winners.

It was a mixed week for the Ladies’ teams.

Pick of the bunch was the C side who strengthened their hold on Division Five with a resounding 6-0 win away at Ombersley.

With just two matches left they are looking strong favourites to take the title and get promoted, with al three pairs cruising to straightforward wins in two sets.

The Ladies E team took on Bewdley D and were pipped by four games with rubbers and sets even. Alison Douglas with Carol Cornellison led the way winning both their contests, but Bewdley fought hard in the other rubbers to deny Bromsgrove victory.

The scoreline of 1-5 against Fladbury for the ladies D team didn’t reflect how close the match was with a number of three- set battles and tie breaks to decide sets. Despite there only being a few games in it at the end it was Fladbury who just managed to inch ahead in the battles.
