SHERIFFHALES trainer Caroline Robinson has entered three horses for the Club Members Conditions, the opening event at the Wheatland Point-to-Point in Chaddesley Corbett on Sunday afternoon (2pm start).

Abhainn Dubh is the least experienced of the trio, while Shales Home Mix and Shales Road have both shown glimpses of form, but that may only earn them a place.

Phil Rowley’s Now Ben is the form horse of the race, but he had his limitations exposed at the last meeting, so the Bridgnorth trainer could choose this easier option rather than the Mens Open later in the afternoon.

Enville-based owner Diana Williams and her daughter Jane will be bidding to retain the cup they won last year, but Red Renard is something of an unknown quantity.

The Restricted has attracted 14 entries, including Cooladerry King.

Mark Wall rides this course better than most, so his opponents would be wise not to let him dictate the pace on Gett Off My Cloud otherwise they may struggle to catch up.

Royal Captain won his Maiden impressively but failed to make an impact next time out, so it may pay to take a chance with Premier Rose from Katy Price’s Herefordshire stable.

He won an Irish Maiden in heavy ground at the beginning of March, but Sunday’s conditions are unlikely to be that testing so his ability to act on better ground has to be taken on trust.

With just 5 horses entered for the Mens Open, the race should not take a great deal of winning but with the exception of Burtolli Boy all of them have similar chances.

Lotus Pond came back to form with a win at Cold Harbour 7 days ago, while Port Golan has the benefit of being in the stable of three times Gold Cup winner trainer Henrietta Knight.

Stone was just touched off in a close finish in The Lady Dudley Cup and that gives him a favourite’s chance in this contest.

Palypso De Creek suffered a surprise defeat at this meeting last year and as he has several other possible engagements over the weekend, his expected absence could result in the Ladies Open being much more competitive.

There is not much between Gauvain and Khyber Kim, while Hall Kelly should appreciate both course and conditions. Stratford Stroller beat Bavard Court at Whitfield and as that horse has come out and won since, the form looks rock solid.

Coeur De Fou and Noel George were narrowly beaten at Whitfield and the young rider acquitted himself well on his debut and lost nothing in defeat.

The horse jumped well and the combination only lost out in the closing stages so this looks an ideal opportunity for George to chalk up his first winner at the expense of Without the Bop, Ballycassel and Minella Class.

The meeting finishes with the Maiden. Most of the entries have failed in their early season objectives but some of their performances may be improved by the better ground.

Others have had a couple of runs for experience and have been noted progressing in the right direction.

Gett Off My Cloud and Wy Worry from Axelle Walls yard fit that criteria, while Young QC from Zoe Hammonds Abberley yard showed a consistent level of form in Ireland which he has struggled to repeat in this country.

The market will provide the best guide to the chances of An Cathaoir and One Day Like This but you may have to be quick if their odds begin to fall.
