PAUL Smith wants Bromsgrove Sporting to keep up the pressure on Midlands Premier leaders Highgate.

The gap between the Rouslers and the table-toppers was reduced after United were held to a 2-2 draw against Uttoxeter on Saturday.

Bromsgrove were without a game at weekend but before last night's home game against Stafford Town, they were six points behind with a game in hand.

Sporting, who have won the last four league games in a row, will be hoping to take maximum points from two home games this week.

After Stafford, they tackle Lichfield City on Saturday (3pm ko), who held Bromsgrove to a 3-3 draw in Staffordshire earlier in the season.

While Highgate are still in the driving seat, Smith feels his side are very much in the hunt.

He said: "We must keep the pressure on the teams above us.

"If we win our game in hand then the gap could be down to three points, which gives us a chance.

"The good thing is that we have a full complement of 21 players for the run-in, so we are in a very good position."

Sporting would still have to win their final six games and hope Highgate slip-up.

Both teams also have pivotal games against fellow title rivals Bolehall Swift, with Bromsgrove tackling the Tamworth-based side next Tuesday (7.45pm ko).

But with two matches at the Victoria Ground this week, Smith feels the fans could play a vital part.

The red and white faithful have came out in force to support their team this season, with the crowds of over 500 cheering on Bromsgrove for pivotal matches.

Smth added before last night's game: "The fans have been absolutely exceptional this season and their support could play a huge part in where we finish.

"We've got three home games left and it is vital we take maximum points from them."

Jack Wilson was set to return for the Lichfield clash after serving a one-match suspension on Tuesday.
