UPBEAT Bromsgrove Sporting manager Paul Smith believes his side are back in the groove after a Bank Holiday weekend where they took maximum points.

The Rouslers kept the pressure on their title rivals in the Midlands Division One with a 2-1 win over Studley on Saturday and 3-0 success at in-form Pershore.

The six points means Sporting are placed fourth in the table but have games in hand over AFC Hinckley and Bolehall Swifts.

With leaders Highgate also only recording four points, Bromsgrove have also closed the gap on table-toppers.

However, Highgate have played the same number of games as the Victoria Ground-based outfit and boast a five-point advantage.

Since a wobble in March, Bromsgrove have win five games in a row in all competitions to really enhance their promotion hopes.

He said: “I am over the moon with the way the players have reacted.

“Every team has a wobble and we had ours a couple of weeks ago but I must say we’re back winning games and playing some of the football when we were flying in December.

“The win over Coventry Copsewood in the Les James Challenge Cup has really given us something to play for.

“We’re still in the hunt for the title and it’s tight. I think AFC Hinckley have played too many games and it’s between us Bolehall and Highgate.

“Highgate and Bolehall play each other and we have Swifts as well, so a lot can still happen.”

On Monday, goals for Aaron Williams and Lewis Clarke inflicted Pershore’s first defeat in nine games and ended a seven-match winning streak.

Both teams were cagey but a Steve Webb own goal got Sporting on their way.

“I must praise the fans and Aaron Williams,” said the manager.

“Aaron has come back from university and really helped us after we lost Ryan Mahon for the rest of the season.

“The supporters were absolutely magnificent, we had over 150 at each game which is superb.”

Sporting have a free weekend and their next game is next Tuesday at home to Stafford (7.45pm KO).
