CRICKET: Cutnall Green will take on some of the best indoor sides in the region after booking their place in the Midlands finals of the ECB National Indoor Championships.

The team, who are Worcestershire Champions, will be in action at Edgbaston on Sunday and face Wolverton in the semi final.

If they win their match, Green will tackle either Flitwick or Godmanchester in the Midlands final for a place at Lord’s for the national stage of the competition.

To get this far, the team defeated Herefordshire winners Bromyard by six runs earlier in the month.

Bromyard put Cutnall Green in and the visitors got off to the worst possible start, losing a wicket to the first ball, Paul Hutchins being run out as the ball failed to bounce off the curtain as expected.

But Ted Bayliss (36 not out) and Derek Higgins (18no) guided Green to 121-4.

George Godsall (61) and Jamie Owens (19) had put Bromyard in a good position but they lost impetus when the pair were both forced to retire.

Bromyard stuttered from 75-4 to 115-6, their hopes finally dashed when the returning Godson was caught by Dan Baylis.

Green’s clash against Wolverton, from Buckinghamshire, starts at 1pm.
