THERE were mixed results for Bromsgrove Tennis Club in their latest round of matches.

It was a tough weekend as both the Ladies’ A and E teams were up against their Division leaders.

In Division One, Worcester A cemented their place at the top of the table beating Bromsgrove A 4-0.

Despite pushing Worcester early on, with Tina Manning and Sally Franks taking the opening contest to three sets, Bromsgrove just didn’t click in the difficult windy conditions on the day.

Captain Sally Franks said: “We didn’t do ourselves justice today and know we can play better.

“But you can’t take it away from Worcester, who were very solid and coped with the conditions better than us.”

Division Nine saw a marathon match as the Ladies’ E Team went down 3-1 to David Lloyd Worcester B Team.

Two crucial tie-breaks, which went the wrong way, gave the opposition the edge.

Lorraine Russell with Anne Simper took their opening contest 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 after being 5-1 down in the final set.

Their second three-set battle saw them go down 3-6, 7-5, 3-6.

Sarah Davies with Sue Murray didn’t get going in their opening contest losing 6-1, 6-2 and were then were just edged out 7-6, 7-5 in their next encounter.

The result keeps Bromsgrove in second place, but the gap between them and the leaders has grown.

Finally, the Mixed D team took on David Lloyd Worcester B in Division Nine.

With Anne Simper and Pete Morris taking two close victories and Lisa Rushton and Mick Collings going down in two tight contests, the result was always going to be close.

Eventually with rubbers and sets equal, the countback on games won resulted in a high-scoring tie at 52-52 games apiece.
