DROITWICH were edged out 18-17 by county rivals Kidderminster Carolians on Saturday.

Spa started slowly and couldn’t get any momentum and with pressure firmly applied Kidderminster opened the scoring with an unconverted try in the corner, followed up by a penalty.

After the first 20 minutes, Droitwich now started to pick up the pace and great phase play by the whole team allowed veteran Nick Godfrey to pick up from the back of a ruck and score for Bobby Scott-Walker to add the conversion.

Scott-Walker then slotted home a penalty to give Droitwich the lead going into half-time.

A fine try by Steven Poke, converted by Scott-Walker, edged Droitwich into the lead.

With Kidderminster now with their tails between their legs, the referee sin-binned centre Mark Strutt for a high tackle, which Kidderminster opted for the posts and added three points.

Straight from the kick-off a mistake by the young Spa winger Dan Wilkinson handed the home team possession and with Spa one defender short, they could not keep out the hosts from scoring a converted try under the posts.

This put the hosts one point ahead with 10 minutes remaining and, while the visitors did get their chances to win the game, they often tried to do too much or were too eager.

Scott-Walker had a chance to win the game with a penalty kick but against the wind he unfortunately pulled the kick wide.
