AVONCROFT got among the runs with a six-wicket win over Ross-on-Wye in Worcestershire League Division Three.

Having won the toss, Ross made a solid start on a belting batting pitch with an opening stand of 129 before Craig Hughes bowled opener Jack Evans (36).

Hughes, Max Jukes and David James all took two wickets each as Croft’s opponnents made 341-7, with James Tiffen smashing a superb 182 runs.

Avoncroft’s reply got off to a rapid start with both openers passing 50 with Sam Hughes (54) and Will Sach (54) in good form, before three quick wickets brought C Hughes and Daniel Elliott together with the score on 153-3.

Hughes played more of the anchor role while Elliott showed his fine stroke-play and timed the ball sweetly to all parts of the ground.

Croft reached their target of 343 in 47.5 overs with Hughes finishing with 89 not out and Elliott with 83 not out in an unbeaten partnership of 192.
