BROMSGROVE CC’s promotion hopes in the Birmingham and District League Division One were all but ended by Saturday’s defeat to champions Ombersley.

The Boars would need to defeat second-placed Wellington this weekend (noon start) and hope Wolverhampton slip up against Shifnal on the final weekend of the season.

Captain Mark Evenson said: “We’ve got a very slim chance of promotion.

“But Wellington only need three points to make sure of second spot, so it’s not going to happen. But we wanted a top four finish this season and we’ve managed to achieve that.”

Bromsgrove were put into bat by Ombersley and were dismissed for 151 in 41 overs.

Alexei Kervezee top scored with 56 runs for the Boars, while Joshua Haynes took four wickets.

They made a good start to their reply with the ball, as Ombersley’s opening batsmen Ollie Steele and Liam Gwynne were dismissed cheaply.

Bromsgrove had reduced their rivals to 60-4 but Joshua Dell (63) and Gareth Andrew guided Ombersley to 153-6.
