A STORMING century from Kris Corbett saw Droitwich successfully chase down 283 in Saturday’s Worcester Premier League clash against Belbroughton.

Opening the batting, Corbett hit a superb 118 before being dismissed attempting another mighty blow.

Following his dismissal, Spa nearly contrived to lose the game, but got home with two wickets and four balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, Belbroughton decided to take first knock and for the opening 20 overs, Spa had control of the game, principally down to change bowlers Jake Young and Max Young.

However, Belbroughton had wickets in hand and made Droitwich pay, particularly Will Pardoe, who finished undefeated on 101 and Rick Wrigley, who smashed 55 in the last eight overs of the innings.

Spa stuck manfully to their task, but wilted in the field late in the innings due to the scorching heat.

Their best bowler was leg spinner Young, whose 17 overs yielded two wickets.

In reply, Droitwich were given a dream start thanks to some wayward bowling from the Belbroughton bowlers.

Spa reached 102 off 13 overs, which included 30 extras before Young was dismissed.

With Corbett in no mood to hang around, he and number three Paul Bryan took the score to 199 at a brisk pace before the latter was surprisingly dismissed for a bright 40.

Droitwich lost Corbett and Max Young (26) as panic spread through Droitwich’s batting order but youngster Keiran Wilkins confidently planted the ball over mid off much to the delight of the home players and supporters.
