BROMSGROVE fireman Phil Blacker continued his impressive sequence of victories with another win in the Wyre Forest CRC promoted circuit race at Stourport Sports Club.

Blacker has been in excellent form racing for Team Jewson MI Racing.

Riding in the third category race of 40 minutes, plus five laps, he gave notice of his intentions in the Clark’s of Kidderminster sponsored prime, a mid-race one lap sprint, when he pulled 40 metres clear of the field.

He then stayed in the bunch, occasionally forcing the pace to wear down his opponents until the last five laps, when he broke clear with only a rider from Halesowen able to match his pace.

But he too was dropped on the final lap with Blacker coasting over the finish line 50m clear.

Over the years the former Wyre Forest rider has proved himself as one of the area’s most consistent performers, winning the Midlands Cyclo Cross series.

In 2011, he was “king of the mountain” in the 40 to 50 age group at the Firefighters’ World Championships.

He saw off some stiff competition in Corsica and improved on the the silver be clinched in 1996.

He has also won bronze in the road race.
