BROMSGROVE have announced that highly-respected coach Dan Protherough will take the reins at Finstall Park next season.

Protherough will replace Ross Baxter as director of rugby in the summer and has been given the task of revitalising the Boars following their relegation from National Two North.

The new man, who starts officially on July 1, comes with an impressive CV.

As head coach he guided Droitwich to promotion to the Midlands Division Three West (South).

The former Moseley and Stourbridge player will be assisted by Duncan Roke and Jon Critchlow.

Currently he is head coach for North Midlands Seniors.

Chairman Vernon Nibbs said: “Dan Protherough is a highly respected and experienced rugby coach and comes to Bromsgrove recommended by RFU officials and administrators alike. We are delighted he has accepted our invitation to join us at Finstall Park.”

“He has some strong rugby traditions, values and knows how to build a successful squad that plays attractive rugby.

“We’re going to need strong leadership and focus from our team management during the next season to rebuild and develop a squad that will take us to the top of the league next year and contenders for promotion back to the NCA.”

Former player Baxter took part in the process to find his replacement and will now concentrate on his role with the RFU.

He leaves his post after guiding the Boars to back-to-back promotions and three seasons at their highest level ever. They also won the North Midlands Cup under his tenure.

Baxter will remain in charge until the end of the season. The Boars are home to Stourbridge Lions on Saturday.
