BROMSGROVE Tennis Club’s Men’s D side secured promotion from the Winter League Division Seven after seeing off Stourbridge E.

The first pair of John Casey and Alex Willis lost in three sets to their Stourbridge counterparts of Finn Cook and Roger Davies, 6-7, 6-4, 2-6.

But Bromsgrove bounced back through the second duo of Mark Blake and Pete Morris, who saw off Julian Oldershaw and Simon Gould, coming back strongly after losing the first set 6-3 and then taking the next two 6-1, 6-1.

In the reverse rubbers, Casey and Willis won 6-3, 6-2, while Blake and Morris played exceptionally well to win 7-5, 6-4.

Victory was enough to put them clear of the third-placed team.

The Men’s A team have put themselves in with a strong chance of taking the title and promotion to Division One with a 3-1 win over Leominster.

Bromsgrove now stand at the top of the table and it’s now up to others to catch them.

Following the win a delighted captain Steve Halfpenny said: “We think we’ve done enough to take the title and we’re all looking forward to playing at the top level again.”

The Ladies C team had a close match against Cutnall Green B team.

With rubbers and sets equal Cutnall just took the win by 34 games to 32.
