BROMSGROVE 14, SEDGLEY PARK 24

BROMSGROVE’S relegation fate was sealed in the National Two North despite a brave performance on Saturday.

The Boar’s defeat and Hull’s victory over Chester confirmed what many knew had been coming for the last few weeks.

The Finstall Park outfit will now play in the National League Three Midlands next season after finishing in the bottom three.

Sam Bastock opened the scoring with a try, converted by Jon Critchlow, after good work by Elliott Davies.

Bromsgrove scrum-half Dave Brazier was constantly asking questions of the Sedgley defence and with half back partner Davies looking assured and distributing well, a further score looked on the cards.

But opportunities were lost due to poor execution and the visitors began to establish themselves in the game.

A penalty from Steve Collins narrowed the gap to 7-3 and a try from close range scrum by Matthew Lamprey, converted by Collins, edged the visitors into the lead.

Sedgley began to look more dangerous and the home defence was breached when full back Robert Holloway raced over in the corner, with the immaculate Collins adding the extras from the touchline.

The hosts started the second half in the same vein as the first, with the livewire Brazier threatening at every opportunity and Dave Hughes in the thick of the action.

Scott Smith burst through to score near the posts and Critchlow converted to make it 17-14 to Park.

But the hosts were reduced to 14 after Steve Blackburn’s yellow card and Lamprey crashed over to score his second try, converted by Collins.
