BROMSGROVE Sporting will push Midland Combination Premier leaders Brocton all the way, insists manager Adie Mander.

The Rouslers are on a high after Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing of Coventry Copsewood, a win which kept the pressure on leaders and second-placed Nuneaton Griff.

While Brocton, who have a six point advantage and three games in hand on Sporting, are favourities, Mander believes Sporting will be there if they fall off the pace.

He said: “We certainly haven’t given up on winning the league.

“The title is Brocton’s to lose but we’ll be pushing them all the way and see what happens.

“It was a great result on Saturday and thoroughly deserved.

“We played the windy conditions well and took our chances.

“Now I think we are able to go on a really good run.”

Sporting boss Mander boosted his side’s attacking options with two new additions from Wolverhampton Casuals.

Striker Chris Russell scored 40 goals helping Tividale to win promotion from the West Midlands Premier to the Midlands Alliance.

His arrival will bolster Sporting’s goal power and take some of the pressure off top-scorer Mark Bellingham.

Sean Williams also enjoyed a fine debut for Bromsgrove on Saturday. Mander added: “Chris has a great goal-scoring record at the level we are playing at and he will be able to help take the load off Mark, who is also doing really well.

“He and Sean I know well from my time and Cradley.

“I am really happy with the squad at the moment, there’s no doubt that it is very strong.

Sporting go to rivals Bolehall Swifts on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

l Meanwhile, Darius Darkin scored in last week’s friendly 2-1 defeat to an RAF side.
