HEAD coach Ross Baxter has set a survival target of 28 points for relegation battling Bromsgrove.

Saturday’s 37-13 loss at fellow strugglers Hull means the second from bottom Boars are starting to become cut adrift in the National North Two.

But they have two home games in a row to try and stop the rot, beginning with the visit of title-chasing Macclesfield on Saturday (3pm ko).

Bromsgrove need to steady the ship after seven defeats in a row and they currently have amassed 18 in a difficult campaign.

“We’re beginning to become a little cut adrift at the moment, but I think if we reach 28 points that will put is in the mix,” said Baxter.

“That means we’re going to have to win a few games and also pick up a few bonus points.

“We need our home form to be better.”

Baxter was frustrated by Saturday’s defeat at Hull after Bromsgrove’s lack of cutting edge cost them again.

The Boars had been trailing 20-10 at the break before late scores saw them off.

Baxter said: “We can compete with any team we come up against, but we lack a cutting edge.

“It is because of a lack of experience and some poor passing in the final third.

“The players are working hard in training, but we do need to start taking our chances.”

Captain Paul Norris misses the clash because of family commitments.

But centre Sam Atkins and flyhalf Richard Mahoney are back from injury.

Bromsgrove are now four points behind Hull, who are fourth from bottom.

They face a Macclesfield side who will be keen to bounce back from their loss to title rivals Sedgley Park.

Meanwhile, former captain Dave Clark has been named as playing manager. Tom Warren had been in the role, but had to step down because of work commitments.
