SIDEMOOR draughts master Tony Boyle proved his tactical acumen after being crowned West Midlands Champion.

This is the second time in as many years that he has scooped the title, which is played in a series of tournaments across the year.

He said: "I didn't realise I had won the title until all the scores were published at the end.

"I knew I had been playing well but it's also great to win the title again."

Boyle, who has played the game for 19 years seriously, also finished runner-up at the Manchester and Welsh Opens as as well competing strongly at the Minds Sports Olympian in London earlier in the year where he came third.

He has also been president of the West Midlands Draughts Association since 2001.
