Droitwich still searching for first win

Droitwich 13pts Banbury 26
DROITWICH still remain winless in their Midlands Two West (South) campaign.
The visitors started brightly and soon took the lead after a flowing backs move resulted in a try. Droitwich though soon got their act together using No.8 Alex Saddington to run in to the heart of the defence and make ground, he was well supported by Dean Goddard, Ross Midgley and Russ Brown.
After a period of pressure the ball was passed wide for Sean Walker & Dave Oliver to go close before Banbury infringed and Bobby Scott-Walker kicked a penalty. Droitwich then took the lead after Steve Smith was hauled down, Matt Jupp carried the ball forward but once again the visitors strayed off side allowing Scott-Walker to put Droitwich ahead. Things looked bright for Droitwich as they headed in to the half time interval with a slender one point lead.
This was as good as it got for the home side as they really didn’t come out of the blocks for the second half allowing Banbury to pin them down in their half and score two unanswered tries and a penalty.
The home side did make the odd foray in to the opposition half but were struggled to get any continuity in their attacks before Banbury scored again to put the result beyond doubt.
In the final quarter Droitwich did find a bit more rhythm and, after good work by Joe Roberts and Stu Lane, captain James Shewell crashed over for a consolation try.
Droitwich will rue not making the most of their possession in the first half, but ultimately Banbury were the more proactive and deserved the points. Droitwich must try and work on their continuity and penetration if they are to lift themselves from the foot of the table.
