Downing races to 800m win

IT was no holiday trip for Bromsgrove and Redditch AC’s under-20s and 17s teams who headed to South Wales for their final Youth Development League fixture of the season.
The small team worked hard to finish fifth in the competition with 210 points in a competition which was dominated by Gloucester.
In the under-20s competition, Simeon Clarence took third in the 100 metres (12 seconds), second in the long jump (5.75m) and was leading the 400m until he had to pull up with an injury in the home straight.
Callum Smith won the 3,000m race (10.31.1) and threw 20.18m in the javelin to finish fourth. Jacob Lange won the shot put with 10.90m.
In the under-17s, Andrew Pearson ran the 400m in 59.5 to take fourth place and jumped 4.84m to finish runner-up in the long jump B competition.
James Downing won his 800m in 2.16.3 and finished second in the 1,500m in 4.54.9.
Lewis Anderson achieved a personal best in the 3,000m finishing second in 11.16.4 with another PB (21.23m) in the javelin to seal second.
In the girls under-20s team, Lucy Solloway sprinted her way to fourth in the 100m A race (14.5) and second in the 200m B race (30.0).
Ashleigh Bevan was third in the 100m B race in 14.3, jumped 3.67m to place sixth in the long jump A and then threw 14.02m in the javelin B for runner-up.
Issy Billau bagged a hat-trick of second places in the 400m A (59.6), javelin A (28.57m) and triple jump (10.39m).
Romy Naven placed third in the 200m A in 27.9 and first in the 400m B race in 63.9. She also jumped 3.67m in the long jump B to finish third.
In the under-17s, Ellie Day came third in the javelin throwing 21.15m and fourth in the shot put (6.51m).
