Bears end campaign with victory
8:00am Friday 22nd March 2013 in Local
BROMSGROVE Bears’ men’s team ended the season in style as they saw off Sporting Albion in the National League Midlands Division Four 84-73 to ensure sixth-place in the table.
Bears ended a campaign with six wins and eight losses but will be encouraged after seeing off a side who finished second.
Captain Adrian McLean scored 10 of Bromsgrove’s 24 points in the first quarter as they took a slender three-point lead into the second period.
That lead was extended to 46-38 after another impressive display with good work by Jerome Johns and Chris Cole.
The hosts edged towards victory after dominating the third quarter, which they won 15-8, and despite a fourth period rally by Sporting, Bromsgrove held on for the win.
Cole was top-scorer with 18 points, while Johns (16) and McLean (12) also made important contributions.
Meanwhile, the Bears mini under-12s got the better of City of Birmingham and Coventry.
The under-16 girls were away in Wiltshire for the second time this season, travelling without an ill Rebecca Taylor, out with tonsillitis.
The girls had previously beat The Demons on home turf so were looking for a repeat performance.
However, they lost out by 15 points at the final whistle.
